I will do my best to work with any lender that my clients choose, but I strongly recommend that they choose someone local -- a local bank, or a branch of a national mortgage company -- so that I can have clear and efficient communications with that lender as we progress through a transaction. Part of my job is to manage the process of getting to closing, and I can do that best when I have a local contact. The most important protection my clients have is that local lenders will be careful of their reputation with local REALTORS -- they care about whether I and my colleagues will recommend them in future to our clients. (As with the lenders, this is not a comprehensive list nor is it meant to suggest that other attorneys don't give excellent service. This is just my personal list of current favorites, based on many transactions. These attorneys can advise you on general issues of real estate purchase and sale, the use of trusts and corporate ownership of real estate, how to handle real estate when there's a change in family status such as divorce, and how to best protect your interests in a purchase or sale that has special complexities or concerns. I also recommend that you use an attorney -- though title companies are in practice here -- for even the most straightforward real estate closing, because no one but an attorney can offer legal advice if you have questions about the property or your loan.)
